So you want to uninstall GeoShell?
We understand that you may want to remove GeoShell. But we would like to remind you about the support forum
– the purpose of this forum is to help users enjoy GeoShell.
That said, if you still feel like uninstalling GeoShell, hopefully these instructions will make the removal of GeoShell an easy task.
 | GeoShell has Changed a little... The way Geoshell is set as the shell as changed (we are launched by WinShellEx now), so using the Set Shell = *.bat batchfiles for setting your shell in GS 4.11.10 is not always the best method. The "-explorer" option should still work normal, but if you want a good alternative that will work for all your shell changing needs, I suggest you check out ShellS . |
When you install GeoShell,
- It adds a key to the registry: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\geO
- The default shell is set to WinShellEx (this is done in the registry, or – on Windows 9x, in System.ini) – after that, WinShellEx is set to launch GeoShell.
- All GeoShell-related files are placed in the folder you specified at install time.
Locating and Launching the Uninstaller
There are two ways you can launch the uninstaller, from the Add/Remove Programs control panel applet or from within the GeoShell directory.
From the control panel applet, just look for the GeoShell R4 item.

Or from the GeoShell directory, just look for the Uninstall_GeoShell_R4.exe file.

 | You Can't Uninstall a Program that is Running! Here are a few steps you can take to uninstall GeoShell if it is your current running shell:
- Open a windows explorer window, to ensure that you have access to programs and the Control Panel during this procedure.
- Stop the geoshell.exe process. The default hot key to do this is Win + X, but you may also employ the Task Manager (in Windows 2000 and XP) or use Ctrl-Alt-Delete (in Windows 95, 98 and ME) to kill the process.
- Use the standard "Add/Remove Programs" item in the Control Panel to uninstall GeoShell. This will remove the geO key from the registry, set the default shell back to explorer.exe, and remove the GeoShell files from your hard drive.
- Most of the time it is a good idea to let the installer reboot your system from the installer. If you are running Windows 95, 98, or ME this is definitely a good idea, but if you are running Windows 2000 or XP, which allows you to start a new program from the Task Manager's Run Command, you can try running the new default windows shell (explorer.exe) That should launch the standard Windows Shell if all else went ok.

The Uninstaller
The uninstaller is extremely simple – it is only three steps and we do all the work for you.
Step 1
This step lets you know you are about to uninstall GeoShell.. just incase you didn't know! It also lets you know which folder you are uninstalling GeoShell from – while this information may not be useful to everyone, it can be extremely handy if you have multiple GeoShell installs on your system. All you have to do is press the Uninstall button.

Step 2
Once you have clicked the Uninstall button, there is nothing you really have to do except sit back and watch. At the top you will see a line that tells you the current file being deleted and a bar indicating progress. If you want a little better view on what is happening, feel free to click the more details button (that's what i've done for this screenshot).

Step 3
Now you just need to decide if you want to reboot now or later.
